How To Update Galaxy S9 / S9 Plus To Official Android 9.0 Firmware

After the beta updates rolled out a few months ago, Samsung has finally released the official Android 9.0 firmware for Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus. Unlike the beta builds beforehand, this firmware should hopefully include no bugs. Those who are directly updating from Android Oreo version to this firmware, there will be a large number of changes and you will see everything has gone through a major revamp. To taste the new features, read our instruction ahead to install the official Android 9.0 Pie manually on your Galaxy S9, Galaxy S9+ using Odin.

Once again, you should note that this specific update is not a beta build. Instead, it is a stable update released. After it’s installed on your phone, you will be able to experience new Samsung One UI along with all other new features, better performance as well as longer battery life.

This tutorial applies to both Samsung Galaxy S9  and Galaxy S9+  devices. The specific models supported are mentioned below.

  • Galaxy S9 G960F
  • Galaxy S9+ G965F

To make sure you are using the correct variant of Samsung Galaxy S9/S9 Plus, simply head to Settings > About phone > Model number to check it.

Steps to install Android 9.0 firmware on Galaxy S9 / S9+

Here is a step-by-step instruction to update Samsung Galaxy S9 / S9+ to Android 9.0 Pie build. The firmware is an official build signed by Samsung and you will need to use the latest ODIN 3.13.1 to flash it on your Galaxy S9 / S9 Plus.

Read every step carefully before actually performing the update on your phone.

Step 1 – Download Android 9.0 firmware from the following links below for your Galaxy S9 / S9+ model. Once done, extract the zip file.

Step 2 – Download Odin 3.13.1 to help you install Android 9.0 Pie update on your Samsung Galaxy S9 / S9+.

Step 3 – Power your phone off and boot it into Download Mode. To do so, press and hold Volume Down + Bixby + Power buttons altogether until you see an Android robot and a triangle. Press Power/ Volume Up button to enter into Download Mode.

Step 4 – Make sure to install Samsung USB drivers on your computer.

Step 5 – Now, open Odin on your computer and connect your phone to while it’s in the Download Mode.

Step 6 – If the connection is successful, the ID:COM box will turn blue with the COM port number.

Step 7 – Now, you need to select the files to flash on your phone. These files can be found from the extracted firmware.

  • Click on ‘BL’ and browse to ‘BL_xxx’ file.
  • Click on ‘AP’ and browse to ‘AP_xxx’ file
  • Select ‘CP’ and browse to ‘CP_xxx’ in its name. Ignore this step if you don’t see the file.
  • Choose ‘CSC’ and with ‘CSC_xxx’ file in its name. Ignore this step if you don’t see the file.
  • Click on ‘PIT’ and browse to the .pit file. Ignore it if there is no such file.

Step 8 – Click on Start button in ODIN and wait for a few minutes for the update to complete.

Once the installation is completed, your Galaxy S9/S9 Plus will automatically restart. Detach your phone from the computer and complete setting up your phone.
