Solutions to transfer contacts from iOS to Android

You have made a hard decision when switching from iOS to Android platform. All you need now to move all of your contacts on your iPhone to your new Android device. In this post, we’ll show you steps to do so manually.

You first need to make sure that you have already backed up your iPhone to iCloud. Once you have done that, you’re ready to start the move. You’ll begin with exporting your contacts in the form of vCard.

Steps to export contacts with iCloud

  1. Open a web browser on your computer. Note that, this process will NOT work with Chrome browser. So, you can use Firefox or Safari.
  2. Head to iCloud.com.
  3. Sign in with your Apple ID and password.
  4. Next, click on Contacts.
  5. Click on All Contacts from the top left corner of the screen.
  6. Press and hold the Command + A keys simultaneously on your keyboard if you are using a Mac. Press the Ctrl + A keys on your keyboard simultaneously if you use a PC.
  7. Click on the Settings button on the bottom left corner, which looks like a gear.
  8. Click on Export vCard and all your contacts will all be saved as a .vcf file. If there is a new window, simply select all of your contacts again, right click on them, and export again.

Steps to import contacts using Google Contacts

You now need to import your vCard with Google. If you don’t have a Google account, simply sign up one for your Android phone. If you’ve already set up your new Android phone, you might set up a Google account during the process.

  1. Open a web browser on your computer.
  2. Log into your Google account.
  3. Click on Google apps button in the top right corner.
  4. Select Contacts.
  1. Click on Import Contacts > Click Choose File.
  2. Select your vCard and then open it from your folder that you have saved it.
  3. Click on Import and all of your contacts will show up after a few seconds.
  4. If there is a red message appearing at the top, click on Find and merge duplicates.
  5. Click on Merge in the popup.

Steps to sync your Google account with your new Android phone

You can easily sync your new Android device with your Google account. If you haven’t turned on your Android phone yet, you’re lucky since you’ll be asked if you intend to sync an account during the setup wizard. All you need is using the account that contains your contacts and then following the on-screen instructions. If you have turned on your Android phone and completed the setup process, here is how you can sync your Google account to bring contacts on your new Android phone.

  1. Open the Settings app from the home screen, or the Notification Shade.
  2. Tap on AccountsGoogle.
  3. Choose the switch next to Contacts to ensure that contact sync is enabled if it’s not already.
  4. Select the More button on the top right corner. It can also be three vertical dots.
  5. Tap on Sync now and wait for it done!

If all of the prior steps fails, you can visit android.com/switch, which will instruct you to use Google Drive for transferring everything from your iPhone to the new Android phone. You need the Safari browser to do so.
