Tag Heuer plans to launch new Connected smartwatches in May 2017

Back in 2015, luxury watchmaker Tag Heuer launched its first high-end smartwatch dubbed Carrera Connected with $1500 price tag. The smartwatch combines perfectly Tag Heuer’s unmistakable design and high-end techs including a changeable watch face, fitness tracking system and more. Tag Heuer’s smartwatch has been in an intense competition with Apple Watch and even Samsung Galaxy Gear S3 which costs only around $349.

It appears that Tag Heuer is doing well in the smartwatch business. According to Tag Heuer, its first Android Wear-based Connected smartwatches have become a big hit since they were first introduced two years ago. According to sources, Tag Heuer had previously expected to sell only 20.000 units of the Tag Heuer Connected watches. However, the Connected watches sales hit more than 55.000 units sold during the first 14 months of availability. That’s nearly three times what the company expected.

According to sources, positive sales of the Connected watches may lead to the introduction of the next generation Tag Heuer Connected watches scheduled in May 2017. Rumors say that the new versions of Connected smartwatch will still feature Intel chips under the hood. Besides, there will be smaller versions of watches specifically designed for women along with larger models.

The new Tag Heuer Connected watches may come with new features and improvements over the previous models including GPS, payment system, brighter display and longer battery life. According to the watch maker, the company expects to sell more than 150.000 units of its new smartwatches.

Smartwatches have been Tag Heuer’s focus for recent years, as the company has recently opened an office inside Intel’s campus in Santa Clara, California, so the company can be connected to its technology industries and other big names in smartwatch field.

Tag Heuer Connected smartwatches will compete directly with Apple Watch and Samsung Galaxy Gear S3 at launch. It’s going to be big fight, but Connected smartwatches are expected to make gigantic hit on launch day.
