Swatch is working on a smartwatch battery that lasts 6 months

If you were to ask a smart watch owner “what would be a cool addition to your smartwatch?” then you could expect the answer to be “unlimited battery” to be a pretty standard answer (I’m sure smart phone owners would agree as well).

Of course this would be purely fantasy.
Until now.

Swatch Group CEO Nick Hayek has said that his company is hard at work on a solution to the riddle of battery life. He was speaking with the Swiss newspaper Handelszeitung and mentioned that not only would the watch brand put out a smartwatch next year, but that it is going to feature a “revolutionary battery”. Exciting news. Swatch’s research group, Belenos, along with battery maker Penata, are hard at work on this.

Perhaps this battery could be used in cars because as Hayek has said “Whoever brings a battery for a smartwatch to the market that you don’t need to charge for six months has a competitive advantage”.

Could this be a competitive future in the smartwatch industry, with the Apple Watch and Moto 360 batteries lasting around a day. We think so.

The most exciting prospect about this whole thing, is the future for batteries in general (for smart products). Imagine if you’re phone battery were to last six months.
