In reality, there are tons of unverified apps out there. Falling for these apps may harm your computer and negatively impact your experience. Therefore, blocking non-Store apps serves as the best option to protect your computer.

In this step-by-step guide, we will walk you through the steps to block non-Store apps in the Windows 10 Creators Update.

Steps to block users from installing non-Store apps in the Windows 10 Creators Update

Step one: First off, you need to open Settings on your computer. Once you are in, you need to click on Apps to proceed

Step two: Next up, you now need to click on Apps & Features and then select “Allow apps from the store only” under the “Installing apps” section

That’s it! You won’t need to restart your computer to apply the change. From now on, you will only install apps from the Windows 10 Store.

For some background, you will be presented with a few options from the drop-down menu under the Installing apps section.

  • If you select the “Allow apps from anywhere” option, you can install any apps from any source.
  • If you select the “Warn me before installing apps from outside the Store”, you will get a warning indicating that the app you are about to install on your device is not from the Windows Store
  • If you select the “Allow apps from the Store only” option, you won’t be able to install any app outside the Windows Store. If you change your mind, repeat the steps below and select your option.
