iMessage for Android? Here is what John Gruber says

iMessage is a nice feature that allows iOS users to send, texts, documents, photos, and videos over  Wi-Fi, and cellular network to other iOS devices. There have been a lot of rumors floating around that Apple may bring its instant messaging service to Android.

Prior to this year’s WWDC event, a report claimed that Apple would unveil iMessage for its rival, Android. This report seemed to be plausible, as Apple previously made its streaming music service available on Android. However, there was no mention of an Android version of iMessage at WWDC 2016. An Apple executive later explained that Apple has no driving reason to expand the reach of its iMessage beyond the iOS platform, and iMessage is currently one of the best selling points of iOS platform.

However, John Gruber of Daring Fireball today claimed that Apple may have made mockups of iMessage for Android and these mockups have been shared around Apple. According to Gruber, the Android version of iMessage comes with UI styles that vary ranging from looking like the iOS Messages app to pure Material Design based on Google’s design language that Apple developed a few years ago. He noted that an Android version of iMessage is possible, as Apple wants to expand its presence in other platforms.

Apple always creates concepts for all types of products and services, and many of them may never see the light of day, and the release of Apple Music for Android may serve as Apple’s strategic plan to ensure that Apple Music reaches the same size audience as its main rival, Spotify. Therefore, the mockups of iMessage for Android may never make it to release

Apple is now distributing three apps for Google Play Store including Apple Music, Move to iOS, an app that migrates your content automatically and securely from your Android device to iOS device, and Beats Pill.

Many Android users are likely upset that iMessage is not coming to Android this year, however, iMessage gives them a solid reason to put bets on . This year, Apple introduced its new iPhone and iPhone 7 Plus with some daring changes ranging from the removal of the 3.5 mm headphone jack to dual-camera system. Beside that, we also have iOS 10, the biggest iOS release ever with a host of new features.
