Huawei officially announces the Mate S

Huawei unveiled the Mate S at its IFA 2015 press event. The device has a more manageable 5.5-inches display, and  borrows the all-metal looks from its predecessor, the Ascend Mate 7.

Richard Yu, Huawei’s CEO, walked the people at the event, through the basics of the Mate S, starting with its 5.5-inch 1080p screen with 2.5D 4th generation Gorilla Glass display and Force Touch, allowing the phone to know how hard you’re pressing on the glass.

There’s also a 2,700mAh non removable battery that according to Mr.Yu will offer more than one day’s batter life. On the software side, the Mate S carries company’s custom EMUI 3.1 software suite, based on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop. The Mate S will feature a 13-megapixel rear camera with optical image stabilisation and 8-megapixel front-facing camera. The smartphone is powered by an octa-core Kirin 935 processor with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage.

The company announced that the device will be available to pre-order from September 15 and prices will start at  €649 for the Standard version which comes with 32GB of storage and 3GB, while the Premium with 64GB of storage will set you back €699. Richard Yu has stated that a 128GB version with Force Touch that will be coming later.
