How to remove duplicate contacts in Android

Sometimes, we can create more than one copy of the contact on our device which makes us feel inconvenient. Resetting your device and syncing contacts or changing SIM and accidentally syncing all contacts are the main reasons for this. But not to worry, in order to solve this problem on Android devices, you can use one of the 3 methods given below:

Method 1: From the Phone Contacts

Most of Android devices are integrated with built-in contacts merging feature (not all of them, however). By this useful feature, you can easily delete duplicate contacts.

First, go to Contacts app and tap on the menu button. From the menu, tap on Merge accounts > Merge with Google > OK. Now all your contacts will be merged.

1- method 1

This will merge the accounts to remove duplicate contacts that were created due to multiple accounts. So this method might not be able to address all the duplicate contacts.

Method 2: Use an app to remove duplicate contacts

First of all, you need to download and install an app named Simpler Merge Duplicates.

2- method 2

Launch this app on your Android device and then it will get started to scan all the contacts.

4- method 2

Now you can see all the duplicate contacts on your device. Just select contacts to merge, all contacts that have similar details and names will be removed from your device and only a copy of a single contact will be saved.

5- method 2

Method 3: Use Gmail to remove duplicate contacts

If you do not want to install a third-party app to remove duplicate contacts, using Gmail would be a feasible solution. By doing this, you need to sync contacts on Android device with your Gmail account.

6- method 3

Now, click on More located at the top of the screen and from the drop down menu, click on Find & Merge Duplicates…

7- method 3

You can see all duplicate contacts here. Now you can uncheck any contact if you want to keep or just click on Merge to merge all your contacts.

8- method 3
