Here’s how to use Google Maps offline on your Android

Google Maps online is a mapping mobile app first released for Android in 2008 and later for iOS in 2012 as an alternative to Apple Maps. It possesses many useful features such as driving directions, satellite and traffic view. Google Maps operates on the Internet and uses GPS to find your location. However, navigating streets through this app often requires high-speed internet connection to load locations and directions exactly, meanwhile, we sometimes encounter network problems. But not to worry, this problem is now troubleshooted. Technology experts have figured out how to use Google Maps offline. The solution is to use the app through downloading maps of the certain area in your android. Now we will walk you through the two methods.

Method 1: Save Google Maps for offline use

Step 1: Connect your Android device to the Internet, open Google Maps and then browse to the location or area which you want to save for offline use.

Step 2: Now, open the list of options from three dotted buttons in upper-left corner of your app, then choose Your Places > Offline areas.

Step 3: Now, click on the plus symbol in the bottom right of the screen and you will see a message that says “download this area?”

Step 4: Drag the map inside a square box until it surrounds the area you want a map of. Move your fingers to zoom in or zoom out the desired area.

Step 5: When you feel satisfied with the map area, click on Download. Now a box appears and just save the map with your desired name.

Step 6: The complete map of selected area will now be downloaded to your smartphone.

Method 2: Access saved Google Maps offline

Step 1: First of all, launch the Google Maps app and go to the options from the three dotted buttons in upper-left corner of your app.

Step 2: Now click on Your places.

If your data connection is not available, you need to scroll down to the bottom, find View all and manage, and you’ll see your saved map. Just tap on the map to start using it.

Note:

  • The area you are going to choose must be not too large (no more than 1.5 GB).
  • The saved google maps data will be deleted after 30 days.
  • Navigating locations will be slow.
  • Because there is no Internet connection, you will not be guided step by step like using Google Maps online.
