Here is how to flash Android 7.0 Nougat Factory Image for Google Nexus 9

Google finally launched the latest version of its Android operating system, Android 7.0 Nougat for all Nexus devices. Google’s Android 7.0 Nougat comes with a number of improvements and new features including split-screen multitasking, an improved Doze mode, better notifications and VR support.

After months of waiting, Google has released the official Android 7.0 factory image file for all LTE Nexus devices including its 2014’s Google Nexus 9 tablet. If you are now using a Google Nexus 9 tablet, we will walk you through the steps to flash Android 7.0 Nougat Factory image for your device.

Note that this guide is aimed at advanced users and make sure that you have a complete backup of your device before moving ahead because no data will survive the flashing process.

Before we get started, you need to check the following instructions to make sure that the flashing process runs smoothly.

Firstly, make sure that you have enabled the USB Debugging from your Nexus 9’s Developer Options menu. If you cannot find the Developer Options on your device, you can use the steps below:

  • Step one: Launch the Settings app. Scroll down to the bottom and tap About Device. After that, all you have to do is to tap seven times on the Build Number section
  • Step two: Once you are done, go back to the Settings page and the Developer Options should show up here.
  • Step three: Open Developer Options and enable USB Debugging there. If you find an OEM unlocking option, enable it before exiting the Settings app

Secondly, if your device has been rooted, you will lose root access when updating to Android 7.0 Nougat

Step one: You need to install the Android SDK on your computer to ensure that your tablet is detected by your computer. You can download it here https://developer.android.com/studio/index.html

Step two: Once you have downloaded it onto your device, install it and use it to download and install all the required Android 7.0 Nougat usb drivers

Step three: Wait until the Android SDK has installed all the required files.

How to flash Android 7.0 NRD90R Nougat Factory Image for your Google Nexus 9 tablet

Step one: You are now supposed to download the Android 7.0 NRD90R factory image zip file. You can download it from here: http://androidhost.org/CMXMD

Step two: Wait for the download to complete. Once done, unzip the file and place its contents in the ‘platform -tool’ folder you obtained while installing the Android SDK on your computer.

Step three: Once you are done, turn off your tablet and boot it into Fastboot mode by pressing Power, Volume Up and Home buttons at the same time.

Step four: Next up, connect your Google Nexus 9 to your computer using usb cable

Step five: Head to the ‘platform -tool’ folder and launch a command-prompt. After that, enter following command line: fastboot oem unlock and confirm

Step six: Launch the flash-all.bat installer script in the folder and start the installation process on your device. This could take a while
