Here is how to download and install tvOS 10.1 beta 5 on Apple TV

Apple has just released the tvOS 10.1 beta 5 for the members of the Apple Developer Program one week following the release of the beta 4 for testing purposes. If you are expecting a public beta of tvOS 10.1, forget about it because Apple has never announced a public beta for tvOS. This means that it is now only available for developers.

In this guide, we will run you through the steps to download and install tvOS 10.1 beta 5 on your Apple TV. Before we get started, remember that you cannot back up your Apple TV the way you always do with your iPhone, iPad or Mac. There are two options for updating tvOS including over the air and USB-C.

Note that updating over the air only updates the software on your device, meaning that all your settings, configurations and apps remain on your Apple TV

Step one: Firs off, you need to head to here and enter your developer account username and password

Step two: Once you have signed in, click on the Download button. After that, go to the Mac App Store and download Apple Configurator app to your device

Step three: Once you are done, you are now supposed to connect your Apple TV to AC power. After that, connect your device to your Mac using USB-C cable

Step four: Now, open Apple Configurator. Once you are done, click on Add Profiles to your Apple TV and add the tvOS 10 beta configuration profile you downloaded in the step two

Step five: Once the configuration profile is installed on your Apple TV, reboot it

Step six: Once your Apple finishes rebooting, click on Settings > System > Software Update

Step one: On your Mac, head to here and sign in with your developer account

Step two: Next up, you need to click on the Download button to the right of tvOS 10 restore image

Step three: Once you are done, click on the Download button to download Xcode 8 on your Apple TV

Step four: Once the download is complete, install Xcode 8 on your Apple TV

Step five: You now need to connect your Apple TV to AC power and connect it to your Mac using a USB-C cable

Step six: Open iTunes on your Mac and select your Apple TV. After that, hold down the Options key and select Check for Updates

Step seven: Select the tvOS 10.1 beta 5 you downloaded earlier
