Here is what we know about Google Pixel 2

Last year, Google made waves by announcing the new pair of smartphones, Google Pixel and Pixel XL. The duo ranks among the best smartphones on the market thanks to their premium design, and high-end specs. What sets the Pixel and Pixel XL apart from other competitors and Google’s classic Nexus lineup of smartphones lies in their Google logo printed on the back. This marks Google’s first step into the hardware market.

The Pixel and Pixel XL are a good start for Google, and the company is undoubtedly planning something special this year. Rumors about the second-generation Pixel have started making their way to the internet, hinting at the impressive features coming in the Google Pixel 2. In this post, we will give you a sneak preview of the second-generation Google Pixel.

  1. Who will manufacture the device?

Last year, the Taiwanese firm, HTC was responsible for manufacturing the first generation Google Pixel phones. Some recent reports have suggested that the second-generation Pixel phones will be manufactured by LG, instead of HTC like their predecessors. This comes as no surprise, as Google and LG have been in a long-standing partnership which saw the South Korean firm manufacture the Nexus family of phones.

  1. Google Pixel 2 design

The Pixel and Pixel XL are the first smartphones carrying the Google-branding, and that will be no different with the Google Pixel 2. This gives Google full control over the phone’s design and hardware. Last year, Google officially moved away from the company’s boring and plastic back design in favor of a new pair of smartphones with premium metal and glass build. This year, Google is expected to retain what we loved about the Google Pixel and add something special to the phone’s design.

Rumors say that Google will adopt a bezel-less design on its Pixel XL 2, while retaining the general looks of the original Pixel phone on the smaller-screened device. A bezel-less design will bring the Google Pixel 2 in line with the Samsung Galaxy S8/S8 Plus, and the upcoming iPhone 8.

  1. Display

The Google Pixel and Pixel XL sport 5.0 inch and 5.5 inch AMOLED displays respectively. Both displays are powered by Samsung’s AMOLED technology. Google is expected to retain the screen technology on its second-generation Pixel phones. According to some recent rumors, the smaller-screened device will feature a 5-inch OLED display, while the bigger one will sport a 6-inch screen.

Sources say that Google will be sourcing OLED panels for the company’s upcoming Pixel phones from LG Display rather than Samsung Display. This comes as a shock, as Google and Samsung Display previously signed a huge deal for OLED panels. Some recent reports claim that Google has been investing more than $800 million in LG’s operation to boost output of OLED screens for its upcoming smartphones.

  1. Hardware and camera

Both devices are expected to be powered by Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 835 chipset and Adreno 540 GPU, thereby offering impressive performance ranging from playing high-res videos to playing heavy-graphics tasks. Besides, the Google Pixel 2 will feature 4GB of RAM for excellent multi-tasking performance.

When it comes to cameras, the smaller-screened device is rumored to come with a 12MP rear shooter and a 7MP front snapper. The first generation Google Pixel and Pixel phones are among the best camera phones out there, so we are expecting something special from Google this year.
