Google Hangouts for iOS gets a complete redesign

Google decided to complete redesign its cross-platform messenger app for iPhone and iPad. Google Hangouts for iOS 2.0 comes with a new look and also enables picture-in-picture video calling for the first time. The new app allows iOS users to send animated stickers to their friends, share a map of their current location but also to send video messages of up to 10 seconds through the app.

The new app now will try to compete with Apple’s FaceTime/iMessage, Microsoft’s Skype and Facebook’s WhatsApp. Hangouts now offers shortcuts to your contact list, favorite people, recent Hangouts, and free voice calling system over the internet.

Essentially, the new app offers new ways to communicate and easier and better navigation. This is a vital improvement for Google as messaging apps are becoming more and more important for tech companies.
